Can stay safe while poking and farming with his Q from a really long distance. This poke can be really obnoxious for the enemy team and will send them scampering. Helps him in covering up his weakness due to his immobile nature.
Has inbuilt Grievous Wound in his kit. His E slows as well, which makes it really easy for him to deal with healers and engage Support champions. This can be really advantageous in a team fight.
His Ultimate R provides utility for his team and can allow him to get key picks which will help him close out the game. The projectile moves swiftly so it is quite easy to land as well.
Very immobile and can be easily killed if crowd control is layered on him. All-in Supports hiding in a lane brush while waiting for him will naturally zone him off the minion wave.
Extremely vulnerable while his Ultimate R is down. He can be flanked with ease as well and assassin’s can easily get rid of him if his team forgets to peel for him.
Improper usage of his E can lead to lost team fights. In lane, using his E improperly will allow any form of enchanter and mage Support to walk up to him and poke him down with ease.

Play safe for the first few levels. You need time to come online and you shouldn’t be fighting unless you have a clear early advantage.
Constantly push and poke the enemy with your abilities. Once they’re low, you can look for an aggressive all-in. However, while kills are nice, your goal is to poke and not commit to fights.
After destroying the bottom lane tower, rotate to the mid lane and try to take that tower. This will open up the map and give your team a gold lead.

Try and stick with your Support throughout the mid-game. You’re quite vulnerable and easy to kill if you’re on your own. By staying with your Support, your survivability will increase.
Continue picking up farm in the side lanes when no team fights are occurring, but spend as little time away from your team. You need gold and XP to buy items and if you fall behind, it will be unlikely that you’ll be able to dish out damage in fights.
Look for picks with your Support/Jungler to get kills and increase your lead. If you kill a key target, you could make the call for Baron.
Just like in the mid-game, you should stick with your Support throughout the later parts of the game. Do not go around the map alone as you will die easily.
Do not play super aggressive in team fights. Just kite and auto-attack the nearest enemy champion. If you walk too far forward, the enemy will focus you and take you down.
Continue to kite in team fights and consistently adapt your positioning. Avoid standing still in fights as you’ll be an easy target.
Varus' Q procurement should help him a lot in the lane. He will be able to poke as well as wave clear easily with this ability.
When against a healer, Varus' W should help him immensely. It can allow him to slow enemies (which will enable him to kite) and apply Grievous Wounds on the enemy.
Getting his Ultimate R should allow him to gain a new form of presence in the lane. The CC is quite potent, and it prevents the enemy's duo from being around them immediately.
As Varus gets his items, his damage should be amplified as the game goes on. Combined with his W, his Q should hurt a lot as well.
Varus' Ultimate R should be a potent team fight initiator. It will also help during neutral objective fights in the objective pits.
Varus' E will help him a lot during this phase of the game. Not only will it slow and zone enemies, but it will also prevent the enemy Life steal from being too potent.
Varus is immobile, so he should go get a QSS during this phase of the game to preserve his power. It will be pivotal during fights, especially if the enemy has heavy CC abilities.
Fighting in tight spaces should help Varus a lot. This is because his Ultimate R tendrils can affect many people this way and help his team initiate a fight.
Varus' W and Q should hurt a lot. Using the Q properly and timely will dictate how powerful Varus is during this game phase.
