Kayn Strengths & Weaknesses

Quite strong with his Shadow StepE mechanic which allows him to gank both bot and top lane relentlessly. It allows him to get his desired Passive form with ease.

He is quite versatile and can play around what his team needs. If his team happens to have a lot of damage, he can go for the Darkin form and act as a front line for his team.

If he takes the Assassin form, he can easily one-shot targets in the enemy backline. With the Shadow StepE movement speed, he can quite easily run them down.

He is very dependent on playing around his Passive before he gets his form. If he happens to get the wrong form early on, he will be set back massively.

With his Ultimate Umbral TrespassR, he becomes completely reliant on the positioning of the target he is in. If the target takes him under their tower and CC’s them, he will take a lot of damage.

His Shadow StepE can be interrupted. This allows the enemy team to put him in a very disadvantageous position which can actually get him killed immediately.

Game plan
Early game
0 - 15 min
Kayn is Weak

Kayn is a skirmish heavy Jungler. Look to fight and duel people often in the early game.

Get your transformation as quickly as possible. Regardless of what transformation you want, you need to get it as quickly as you can. This can be achieved by fighting often.

Kayn has good objective control. Try to secure objectives as often as possible in the early game.

Mid game
15 - 25 min
Kayn is Strong

Look to assassinate targets that are walking around Summoners Rift alone. Your champion is really good at blowing somebody up, so try your hardest to increase your lead by getting picks.

In team fights, look to flank and blow up the squishiest enemies. Attacking from the side rather than running directly at the enemy will be your go-to plan in team fights.

Focus on securing objectives like the Dragon and Baron in the mid game. As you’re the Jungler, make sure you make the call for the objective when necessary.

Late game
25+ min
Kayn is Average

Peel for your allies in the late game, especially if you’re Red Kayn. Keeping them alive and focusing the champion they’re focusing will increase your chances of winning the fight.

Group with your team in the late game. You can play off to the side slightly if you’re ahead and are able to assassinate someone.

Continue to focus objectives like the Baron or Dragon. Getting a pick could provide you with enough time to do the Baron.

Power Spikes
Early game0 - 15 min

His first power spike will be when he get his Reaping SlashQ and Shadow StepE. It will allow him to gank properly, especially from behind overextended enemies.

Kayn's power spike will be dependent on which form he elects to go for. He will be powerful if he goes red form against tanks or blue form if the enemy team is filled with squishy targets.

Once he gets his Ultimate Umbral TrespassR, he should be able to dive enemies with ease. It will also benefit him a lot once he gets his form.

Mid game15 - 25 min

His Shadow StepE allows for some very creative gank paths. One hotspot for such ganks is behind the enemy bot lane when they are overextended.

Kayn's Blade's ReachW is very important depending on which form he goes for. It helps him assassinate people when he has blue form or knock people up when he elected for the red form.

He should be using his Blade's ReachW in the jungle to secure picks when he can. This is especially beneficial when he has gone for his blue form and finds a squishy target roaming alone.

Late game25+ min

As he gets his items, he will be able to do a lot more in fights. If he went for the red form, he will be able to survive for quite some time, while if he goes for the blue form, he can instantly one shot any squishy he sets his eye on.

His Ultimate Umbral TrespassR and Reaping SlashQ cooldown should help him run down enemies with ease. He should be able to do a lot as red Kayn if he manages to get some follow up from his team.

Kayn should always try to flank the enemy when he can. He may use his Shadow StepE as well but that doesn't always work with blue Kayn. He should always try to go for the backline and separate the frontline from the backline when possible.
