Caitlyn has lots of range and early poke. She can get an early lead purely by constantly pushing the minion wave and getting tower plates.
Caitlyn’s early game is really good and if she’s able to get a lead, it will be hard for the enemy ADC to catch up to her.
Her Ultimate R is really good at executing enemies if they’re alone and low. It can be difficult to use in some scenarios though, but if the enemy is low, it should result in an easy kill.
Extremely vulnerable once her E is on cooldown. It is her main defensive tool, which if used offensively, can allow the enemy team to all-in her and kill her (if she is too pushed up).
If a Caitlyn can’t use her W in a proper way, she can’t really be too effective in the laning phase. It takes some time to get used to placing the W traps, especially against enemies who have a form of a dash or blink in their kit.
She falls off massively during the mid-game as she is extremely reliant on critical strike chance to be able to dish out a lot of damage. Her counterparts can deal a lot of damage and have a lot of utility at this point due to their kits, which puts Caitlyn in quite a weak spot.

Use your early game advantage to push the wave consistently and get tower plates and extra gold. Use your Q so it fast pushes the wave and hits the enemy at the same time.
After getting the first tower in lane, rotate to the mid lane and take more turret plates or get the outer tower. This will open up the map and increase your chances of winning.
Consume your Headshot Passive on the enemy laner(s) as often as possible. This will help you win trades and skirmishes with the enemy.

Move to the mid-lane once you’ve destroyed the first tower in your lane to open up the map.
In team fights, kite backwards when necessary. Even though Caitlyn is strong, she cannot tank a lot of damage. Kite backwards to increase your chances of surviving. Reserve your E purely as an escape tool if the enemy has strong all-in.
Even though your Support will often run away to ward, make sure you stick with them as much as possible. If you’re alone, the enemy may try to set up an ambush and take you down. Avoid walking through unwarded parts of the map during the mid-game.
In the late stages of the game, make sure you stick with your team at all times. Do not get caught out alone as it may cost you the game. Stay safe and stay with your allies.
Do not play super aggressive in team fights. Just kite and auto-attack the nearest enemy champion. Use your E to gain distance from the enemy frontline. If you walk too far forward, the enemy will focus you and take you down.
Continue to kite in team fights and consistently adapt your positioning. Avoid standing still in fights as you’ll be an easy target.
Caitlyn's minor powerspike is when she manages to get her W traps. This is minor because the effectiveness of the traps depends on how the player playing her utilizes them. In general, the CC aspect of that ability can allow her Support to all-in the enemy easily, while Caitlyn deals a lot of damage to them.
A moderately important power spike is when Caitlyn gets her E. She needs to be completely all-in'd in order to be taken down and her E prevents her enemies from doing just that. Besides, it also counts as a headshot.
Her major powerspike is when she gets her first item. She scales really well with critical strike chance and her first item should be able to give her that along with other stats that will help her in the transition from early to mid-game.
Caitlyn can dish out a lot of damage in this phase of the game. After completing her core items, she can quite literally melt health bars due to her crits and headshots. She just needs to be peeled for at this point.
This is the part of the game where picks are more important than anything. Her W traps can help her immensely with that (although it needs to be paired with some other previous form of CC from her teammates). Her Ultimate R on the other hand can help her secure killing blows from a long-range.
She excels at sieging towers so she should be looking to swap to mid-lane when she has managed to thin out or destroy the bot lane tower. It will give her team the much needed mid priority required to get the neutral objectives.
She can now dish out a lot of damage and can shred both squishies and tanks if she is peeled for. She should be ready to use her E defensively though as she has a great chance of getting killed by assassins. A defensive item purchase should help her with this as it will maintain her power spike while preserving her survivability.
Her power increases if she fights in open spaces. This will allow her to kite very freely and switch targets almost immediately depending on the priority. It will also allow her to watch out for flank attacks on her with her E.
Although her Ultimate R is a finishing move of sorts, she can also use it frequently at this stage of the game. This allows her to target a squishy champion from max range and send them back to base before a major fight. This gives her team a man advantage and a time to initiate an unfair fight.
