Excellent CC chain if he or someone else on his team manages to CC a target. This works especially well against immobile carries.
Can regenerate a lot of health with his W and hence outsustain his enemies in the lane. His Ultimate R amplifies this effect and is really effective when fighting in closed spaces.
He can use his W to set-up ganks for his Jungler as well. This allows him to catch up to his target while also providing vision of the area. The latter part is very useful when it comes to objective control.
Very immobile and is weak during the early laning phase. This is especially true if he is facing a champion who can all-in and CC him.
Is quite vulnerable when his E is down as it is his main form of CC. Without this ability, he is reliant on his team to CC targets.
Grievous wounds can completely counter his kit during the early game and also affect his mid-game. He is very weak when his Ultimate R is down as he won’t have the amplified healing and AoE damage.

Play safe for the first few levels. You need time to come online and you shouldn’t be fighting unless you have a clear early advantage.
After destroying the bottom lane tower, rotate to the mid lane and try to take that tower. This will open up the map and give your team a gold lead.
Once you have a few levels under your belt, you can start to play aggressive and look for aggressive plays. You benefit from extended trades, so try to go for them frequently.

Stay with your team during the mid-game. You’re not strong enough to remain alone. Make sure you’re always with your ADC at the very least.
Place vision around major objectives before the objective spawns. Use your W to help you scout for enemies so you don’t have to face check them.
Look for picks with your team on isolated targets. Catching out a key target could allow you to take the Baron.
Ward major objectives and place vision in high traffic areas in the late stages of the game. Keep them warded so you can see the enemy move around the map and see them starting the objective.
Stay with your team at all times. Avoid moving around the map alone so you do not get caught out. Getting caught out will result in your team having to play 4v5. Do not ward alone unless you know where the enemy is.
Peel for your allies as much as possible. Keeping them alive for as long as possible in team fights is a must in order to win the game.
He gets a significant power spike once he unlocks his E. His ability to CC his enemies should help him make plays.
Once he gets his E, his all-in damage will become very high. He will also be able to heal himself for a portion of his health.
Getting his Ultimate R is a significant power spike for Swain. He can now all-in people more reliably and cause mayhem among the enemy team.
As Swain keeps getting his items, his damage output should become too high. He will be able to blow his enemies up with ease.
His W will be a reliable zoning ability during neutral objective fights. It allows Swain to either keep the enemy team off the objective pit or separate the enemy team members from each other.
Swain should set up picks inside the enemy Jungle using his E and W. His Ultimate R should help him immensely during significant fights.
At this point in the game, Swain should be playing the role of a disruptor. His Ultimate R will allow him to distract the enemy backline while his team follows up-on him.
His E should help him land multi-man CC combos on enemies who are grouped. Combined with his W, it will serve as a good source of damage for them.
He may need to get a Zhonya's Hourglass to preserve his power during this game phase. This is especially true if the enemy has a lot of CC.
