Tier list methodology

Every patch, our experts curate a predictive tier list for climbing solo queue based recent buffs, nerfs, and trends.

We rate champions as Optimal (S-tier), Great (A-tier), or Good (B-tier) based on their ability to perform in the current meta. Champions are also given a skill floor difficulty rating to indicate how much of a time investment is needed to see positive results.

If a champion isn’t on our tier list, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you can’t climb with them. You’ll just have to put in more effort to get similar results as our Optimal, Great, and Good choices for climbing.

Malphite has been slowly creeping up in power recently but his move to S tier has a lot to do with the champions he's surrounded by. He's one of the few who can clobber picks like Jax and Fiora by tearing their attack speed to shreds with his E. Combine that with a huge frontline presence in teamfights and amazing initiation and he can be a solid pick up to have some real impact in a game.

Nunu & Willump

Nunu has snowballed his way into S tier for this patch boasting one of the best mid games out of any jungler. While he can fall off later, when you have 2 or 3 items, he will out heal and survive most fights while still dishing out a fair chunk himself. He is ideal for any jungler who likes to get his team ahead and then be a huge meatshield while they kill everyone.

Similar to his brother, Yone is an 0/10 or 10/0 champion with absurd scaling and 1v9 potential. This makes him a likely target for getting banned as more so than almost any other mid laner in low elo. Currently, Yone players decide who wins whether it’s by feeding or carrying but since he’s mechanically much simpler and easier to carry with than Yasuo, most people are able to pull it off - the champion basically plays itself once you hit 3 items. He also has the added bonus of being one of the few scaling AD mid laners which goes very well with how popular AP junglers are currently.

Vayne is getting a buff to her ultimate this patch giving her more AD when it's active. This is especially big for her kill pressure at level 6 in the lane phase and if you give her more power early, she'll have an even better chance at reaching late game. At 3 items she becomes almost unstoppable with stealth, stun, and being one of the best duelists in the role.

Blitzcrank is having a field day in the current meta with Lux, Lulu, Senna..all very easy targets to hook that are pretty much guaranteed kills. If you’re playing with potent early game ADCs, you can easily give them an early lead that can snowball into a much bigger advantage for your team.
