Sustained fire with this weapon overheats it, increasing damage but burning the user.

Tommy's Matchbook is a risk reward weapon that increases damage at the cost of burning the user. The max damage buff it can obtain is doubling damage in PvE and just over one and a half damage in PvP. The weapon takes 20 shots to activate the perk, which is far more than the shots it takes to kill, so to benefit from the perk, prefiring before a fight to get to the damage bonus.

In PvE this is best paired with abilities that heal the user to prevent the weapon from self inflicting too much damage as well as hip firing the weapon which reduces the damage taken from the self burn. With Solar builds use this weapon with Ember of Empyrean which will extend the duration of Restoration, allowing this weapon to continuously fire through its self damage with no threat due to Restoration being present.
