Shen counter tips

Laning Against

Strong trades with his Passive shield define the early laning phase for Shen, avoid trades where his shield is up. The shield has a 10 sec static cooldown reduced whenever an ability hits a champion.

Watch out for Shen's Blade passing through you! If his sword passes through you it increases his damage, attack speed, and it also slows you. Potentially leading to more empowered

ShenQ

auto attacks.

Shen's most important tool early is his taunt

ShenE

. It is the guarantee for his increased

ShenQ

damage and is the most effective way for im to trade. If he lands his taunt

ShenE

, back off as soon as you can and re-engage when it’s on cooldown.

Strategy VS

When Shen hit’s level 6, it gives him access to his

ShenR

. Fortunately, it is not a damaging

ShenR

. Look to all in him when you hit 6 as he will have one less ability to trade back with. Also, trading with him will stop him from casting his

ShenR

on an ally.

Stand United (Shen’s R) has a 3 minute 20 second base cooldown at rank 1. If it can be baited out in a skirmish, you take a significant amount of his power out of the game for a good amount of time as there are few items with cooldown reduction Shen will ever build.

Shen will be looking to split push while his

ShenR

is up as it allows him to apply pressure in two places at once. Whenever you see him channeling his

ShenR

, either kill off the target or disengage for now. Look to fight while it’s on cooldown.

Power Spikes

Shen's first power spike is level 2 in lane. Taunt + empowered

ShenQ

with Grasp will win him nearly any trade early. Be sure to get the early shove so that you can get level 2 first and deny him this power spike as he does not want to taunt into your minion wave.

At level 6, Stand United

ShenR

allows Shen to impact his other lanes from anywhere on the map. Be careful for tower dives or of enemy players baiting an engage into a Stand United. Ping as soon as he hits 6.

Titanic Hydra givens Shen high amounts of burst, higher wave clear and gives him mixed damage. Be cautious about getting taunted (hit by E) as Shen with this item early is a reasonably strong duelist.
