Pre-6, Kassadin has no access to his mobility ability, and has poor wave clearing. He is very easy to gank. Freezing the wave in front of your own tower with a modest amount of jungle pressure (successful ganks being a bonus) can destroy any semblance of his presence in lane.
Post-6, be wary of Kassadin's
stacking mechanic. Each time he casts his
, the damage increases and mana cost doubles. At full four stacks, his
costs 800 mana. Keep an eye on his mana pool when fighting as once he is low, he is very vulnerable and cannot return fire.
Kassadin's Passive and
magic shield are useless against AD. Champions like Zed, Talon, and Pantheon are extremely oppressive matchups for Kassadin and, played properly, will prevent Kassadin from scaling appropriately.
Kassadin's late game is potent. Avoid letting Kassadin free farm or stalling the game out for too long without achieving anything. Punish his early game with proper wave manipulation and gank setups so he can't transition smoothly as the game progresses.
When it comes to team fighting, Kassadin will try to assassinate targets in the backline. He will usually hide off to the side to begin with, so make sure the sides are warded when sieging or fighting.
