Alistar will most likely always look for an engage as long as he is not getting into your turret range. Be sure to not overstay in lane.
Even though Alistar’s is a point and click ability, you can still dodge it by dashing, blinking or Flashing before it hits you. You can also interrupt the dash with knockups, knockbacks or knockdowns.
Alistar will look to roam if the lane gets stale. Make sure to punish him by pushing out bot and threatening his lane partner.
Alistar will not hesitate to Flash over walls to start fight. Be sure to ward your flanks when sieging an objective or starting an neutral objective.
Alistar’s gives him insane survivability for team fights and lasts for 7 seconds. However as soon as his Ult has gone, he becomes much easier to take down. Avoid focusing him during his Ult and punish him when his Ult is down.
Avoid fighting in chokepoints as his > combo can single handedly win a team fight with the right follow up. Also don’t clump too much together since his W> combo has a big area of effect.
Alistar has a strong all in potential as soon as he hits level 2. Before that however he can be poked out of lane, so abuse this as much as possible before he hits level 2.
As soon as Alistar hits level 6, his tower diving potential increases. Be sure to always have your side brushes warded and back off the turret if Alistar plays way too aggressively.
With items like Righteous Glory, Alistar’s engage becomes even more devastating if he focuses a priority target. Righteous Glory will give Alistar a huge movement speed increase: allowing the enemy only the slightest of margins to escape.
